I have researched this particular field and found very little if any incidents in the UK. HPA suggests that 1 in 3 pneumonias are related to Legionella. I can only conclude, based on this statement and the activity in the US and Canada, that we do not detect legionella in the types of environment, YET!!!!
I have been involved in some of the most prestigious homes for the elderly and note that these places are well documented for legionella control but those individual and small groups have yet a long way to go. Inspecting officers in the UK seem to need much more training in legionella. This conclusion is made due to the issuing of licenses for operation of these types of establishments with incomplete risk assessments, no training evident and poor logbook keeping, if any, all for the control of legionella. May be a wake up call could be around the corner! Don't let it be you.
